The Hippy Bus
Exploring the Hippy Side of Life Since 2020
We’re Aidan and Biffy, and since meeting in 2020, we have converted multiple campervans, adopted a fluffy hitchhiker, and lived full-time on the road. We’ve ventured across the UK and Europe and are currently driving our 32-year-old Mercedes 410D Peppe around North Africa. Travel runs through our veins, and after nearly six years full-time on the road, we’ve begun the journey of settling our roots in rural Portugal. We’ll always be exploring Mother Earth, but having a homestead to return to is our dream. With our European residency process started and off-grid land in Portugal becoming our base, we want to inspire and encourage others to seek adventure, new experiences, and to travel the planet we’ve all been blessed with!
Why the Hippy Side?
For us, embracing what we like to call ‘the hippy’ side of life, means we live alternatively in a peaceful, free-spirited way, guided less by societal expectation and more by our creative curiosity. Spending time in nature is where we’re happiest; barefoot on warm sand, scrambling to the peak of a mountain, or simply bopping about in our old Hippy Bus - we love it all.

Aidan's Story
“Travelling often from a young age opened my eyes to the world, and I’ve had a hunger to explore different countries ever since. I first moved into a van to spend more time outdoors, and after meeting Biffy and travelling to Europe, I knew it was where I wanted to settle one day!
Owning an old Mercedes has always been a dream of mine, and when we saw Peppe on the market, I knew we had to rescue him and restore him to his former glory. As a Crohn’s Disease sufferer, life can sometimes be tough, but something my diagnosis has taught me is how amazing our bodies are, and the amount they put up with.
Sharing our story with the world will hopefully inspire other chronic illness warriors to still dream, act, and achieve - you are stronger than you think!”

Biffy's Story
“I’ve always been passionate about travelling, and I’m grateful my parents were able to take us away on family holidays when we were younger. Having taken annual summer tent trips to Cornwall, living alternatively was a natural progression for me, and a van provides a lot more luxury than a tent!
Vanlife has allowed me to find myself and reconnect with nature - something I hadn’t realised I’d become so detached from. After struggling with symptoms for 13 years, I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2022. Having a chronic illness diagnosis has made me realise just how precious life is, and how important it is to make the most of good days.
Right now, I’m excited to continue pouring our souls into creating our off-grid piece of paradise - on a budget of course!”
